You get scope and price in writing, including what the permit and inspection are expected to run, which is $500 to $1,000 depending on the jurisdiction. If we find something behind the drywall that changes the number, you hear about it before we keep going, not on the invoice.
Our own team does the work
We do not farm residential electrical scopes out to a rotating pool of subcontractors. The team that quotes the job is the team on site, which is what keeps the accountability in one place.

Do you pull permits for all residential electrical work?
Yes, for all residential electrical work that requires one. As a C-10 electrical contractor (California license #1144031) we are authorized to pull electrical permits throughout Santa Clara County. Permits are required for panel upgrades, service upgrades, new circuits, EV charger installs, and new wiring. We file the application, coordinate with the local building department, and see the work through final inspection, so you never have to navigate that process yourself.
What do permits and inspections cost on a residential job?
Permit and inspection fees run $500 to $1,000 depending on the jurisdiction. Santa Clara County has 15 incorporated cities plus unincorporated county areas, and each building department sets its own fee schedule, so the number depends on which one your address falls under and on the scope of the work. We identify the correct authority, quote the expected fee in the written estimate, and pull the permit as part of the job rather than handing it back to you.
Do you use subcontractors?
No. Cali Rollin Electric performs residential electrical work with our own team. We are a dedicated C-10 electrical contractor, not a general contractor farming out the electrical scope. The team you meet at the estimate is the team doing the work, which matters because subcontracting is where accountability gaps come from.
My house is from the 1950s. What should I be looking at first?
Start with the panel and the branch wiring, in that order. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels are a replacement conversation on their own, because insurers increasingly will not renew a policy while one is in place. Knob and tube from the pre-1940s era and aluminum branch wiring from the 1960s and 70s are the two branch-wiring problems carriers ask about. A safety inspection tells you which of these you actually have, what condition it is in, and what an insurer or a buyer is going to flag, before it becomes an emergency or an escrow delay.
