The permit office changes every few miles
Each of the 15 incorporated cities runs its own building department, with its own submittal process, its own plan-check turnaround, and its own fee schedule. Property in an unincorporated pocket goes through the County instead. Getting that wrong is how a job loses two weeks before anyone touches a wire, so we identify the correct authority before the estimate goes out.
Four different utilities serve one county
Santa Clara is one of the few counties where the serving utility genuinely varies by address. Santa Clara city is served by Silicon Valley Power, Palo Alto by City of Palo Alto Utilities, and most of the rest by PG&E for delivery, with generation through SVCE or San Jose Clean Energy depending on the city. Rebate programs, interconnection paperwork, and meter work all follow the utility, not the county line.
Housing stock varies by decade, not by county
The wiring problems track the era a neighborhood was built. Pre-war Palo Alto and Willow Glen bring knob and tube. The 1960s and 70s tracts across San Jose, Milpitas, and Sunnyvale bring aluminum branch wiring and Federal Pacific panels. Newer Morgan Hill and Gilroy construction is mostly a capacity conversation about EV charging and batteries. Knowing which one you are walking into shortens the assessment.

What cities do you serve?
All 15 incorporated cities in Santa Clara County plus the unincorporated county areas: San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell, Milpitas, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Gilroy. Santa Clara County is the only county we serve, residential and commercial.
Who issues the electrical permit for my address?
Whichever authority your property actually sits in. If the address is inside an incorporated city, that city's building division is the Authority Having Jurisdiction and issues the electrical permit. If it sits in an unincorporated pocket of Santa Clara County, the County permit office is the authority instead. As the C-10 contractor of record we identify the correct one, pull the permit, coordinate the inspection, and hand back the closed-permit documentation.
Which utility serves my home, and does it change what I can claim?
It changes it significantly. The City of Santa Clara is served by Silicon Valley Power, a municipal utility, so rebates run through SVP programs rather than PG&E. Palo Alto is served by City of Palo Alto Utilities. Most other cities in the county get delivery from PG&E with generation through Silicon Valley Clean Energy, and San Jose through San Jose Clean Energy. Because incentive programs are run by the utility rather than the county, two homes ten minutes apart can qualify for different amounts on the same equipment. We confirm your serving utility before quoting anything rebate-dependent.
Do you charge extra for cities farther from your base?
No. Pricing is driven by the scope of the work, the condition of the existing panel and conduit, and the permit fees in that jurisdiction, not by drive time inside the county. Permit and inspection fees run $500 to $1,000 depending on the jurisdiction, and that is quoted in writing up front.
How fast can you get to my city?
